Understand the Problem
- Re-read the problem
- Re-word the problem
- What is the problem trying to solve (in a nutshell)
- Identify key words
- Ask questions
- Identify and remove extraneous (unnecessary) information
- Determine the method of computation (+,-,x, or (the little line with two dots on either side). That's right, division.
- Collect and organize information
- Guess, test, and estimate
- Look for patterns
- Draw pictures
- Work backwards
- Use a flow chart
- Turn the problem into a two step process
- Use a calculator
- Use the collaboration space in class note book and work with other students to brainstorm and compare possible solutions
- Retell the problem with an answer
- Check if the answer is reasonable
- Look for another way you solve the problem
- Most importantly, don't give up,( just take breaks once in awhile, and try revisiting the problem after drinking a refreshing glass of water with a twist of lime). Mmmm, so refreshing!
